Abstract

In an incineration and heat recovery method and apparatus for oven combustible solvent vapours, are withdrawn from the oven (e.g. via a duct 20) into and through an incinerator device and thence through a heat exchanger 14 by a constant volume rate fan or blower 16 disposed downstream of the heat exchanger whereby the mass rate at which the gases are extracted from such an oven is essentially independent of the oven gas temperature. The invention also includes the incinerator device which comprises a housing 22 within which an elongated incinerator tube 30 is supported within the housing. One end of the tube opens into the housing to receive the solvent-laden gases from the housing for incineration in the tube. At least one burner nozzle 46 (Fig. 2) is disposed in the tube to incinerate the gases. The tube has an outlet passing through the housing wall (e.g. to the heat exchanger 14). The oven gases surrounding the incinerator tube effectively provide thermal insulation for the incinerator tube. <IMAGE>
