Abstract

The valve for use in a fuel line is normally in an open position but automatically shuts off the fuel line in the event of a rise in ambient temperature in the vicinity of the valve. The valve includes a valve member 27 for co- operation with a valve seat 15, biasing means 29 biasing the valve member towards a position in which it engages with said seat and fusible means to hold the valve member against said spring bias and in an open position, said fusible means preferably comprising a sleeve 41 which holds a plurality of detent balls 43, that are located in radial passages in a housing 31 for a stem 35 of the valve member, in engagement with a circumferential groove 45 in the valve stem, breakdown of the sleeve as a result of rise in temperature beyond a predetermined value allowing said balls to move radially outwards out of engagement with said groove so that the biasing means will move the valve member into engagement with the valve seat. <IMAGE>
