Abstract

To reduce the likelihood of a catamaran or trimaran capsizing, a stabilizing device includes a stabilizer arm 15, mounting means 16 for connecting the front end of the stabilizer arm 15 substantially centrally at the front part of the boat for vertical pivotal movement; a collapsible bag 19 connected to the rear or trailing part of the stabilizer arm 15, bag holding means 22 for releasably holding the bag in a collapsed condition; supporting means 26 for so supporting the rear of the stabilizer arm 15 that, in use, the bag is near to water level; and support release means 27 adapted, on the boat tilting, to release the bag holding means 22 to permit the bag to open and fill with water. The arm 15 may be slowed to either side by guys 17. <IMAGE>
