Abstract

200,284. Slack, G. L. May 9, 1922. Caretakers.-A coin. controlled device for holding garments &c. comprises a bar 2, Fig. 1, carrying the retaining devices and normally held up by a spring 3, the bar being locked in this position by a pivoted latch 4 engaging a notch 5. When the bar is freed by a coin and fully depressed to garmentholding position, the bolt 17 of a lock 16 in which the key is normally retained, is shot into a notch 19 of a plate 14 attached to the bar. Coin action, mechanical-connection.-A coin inserted in a shoot 10 rests on a stop 11 carried by a lever 21. A projection 13 of the plate 14 as the bar is depressed forces the coin past the latch 4, freeing this from the notch 5 against the action of a spring 8. If two coins are inserted, the second is held back by the projection 13 and, after the first is discharged, rolls past its bevelled edge 43 on to the stop 11. Surplus coins are pressed back through the insertion slot. Coin-discharging mechanism.-The bolt 17 acting on the end 20 of the lever 21 withdraws the stop 11 and allows the coin to drop down a vertical shoot 9 to a money-box 23. Fraud, preventing.-The coin shoot is made zig-zag to prevent manipulation by wire, and the lever 21 has a finger which rides over a projection on the latch 4 to move the stop 11 a short distance to discharge small coins. Coin-slit closing-devices.-A lever 25 is held by a spring with its nose 27 projecting through a hole 29 into the shoot except when the bar 2 carrying an incline 31 to engage the end of the lever 25, is in its uppermost position. Registering.-A counter 33 is actuated by a rod 35 having a shoulder 39 engaged by an eyed bracket 37 on the plate 14. The rod 35 is held in its lowest position against a spring by an inclined shoulder 41, Fig. 6, engaging a fixed eyed bracket 36, and is only released when the bar 2 is returned to its highest position by the eyed bracket 37 engaging the incline 41. Fitting and securing to walls and other supports.-The top of the casing 1 enclosing the mechanism has slotted ears 47 to engage over headed screws, and the bottom has an ear 49 with a hole 50 to receive a screw which can only be inserted when the money-box is removed. The money-box is then replaced and secured by a lock 45.
