Abstract

In a cylinder 1 with an inlet pipe 4 for the exhaust gas and a throttle wall 8 having a number of holes 7, the area of each hole is between 2.5 and 24 mm<2>, the ratio of the total area of the holes to the cross-sectional area of the inlet pipe is between 0.8 and 5.5 and the thickness of the wall is between 0.8 and 6 mm. The gas expands on entry to the chamber 6 to provide liquid condensation and liquid and solids are collected in the filter material 10. <IMAGE>
