Abstract

Medicines for internal use; medicaments for external application.-Emulsions of medicaments soluble in oil are made by dissolving the medicament in an oil which has been brought by partial halogenization to a specific gravity substantially equal to that of the emulsifying liquid which is subsequently added. In an example, bromine is dropped into cooled olive oil until the specific gravity of the product is 1.02. Equal parts of a twenty per cent solution of camphor in the product and of a dilute gum solution are stated to form a stable emulsion. Any other medicament soluble in oil may be similarly treated, and other emulsifying agents, such as sodium caseinate, may be used.
