Abstract

199,097. British United Shoe Machinery Co., Ltd., and Gouldbourn, J. March 13, 1922. Pulling-over and lasting.-A pulling-over or pulling-over and lasting machine is provided with means which, to deal with differing shoes, automatically and positively drives into different operative positions an element or elements, such as wiping and tacking means. which operate on the margin of the upper. The element is connected to two driving devices in series, the second being yielding. The side clamps 5, 9 described in Specification 9385/10 are connected by a link 16, pivoted arm 17 and link 19 with a slide 20, so that when the clamps are swung into contact with the shoe their position determines that of a cam surface 28 on the slide 20. The slide 20 moves in a way 21 formed on the plunger housing of the slide which moves the tacker arm 2 inward, as described in Specification 7005/00. Perpendicular to the way 21 is a way 23 in which slides a locking piece 24. The construction is such that as a face 29 carried by the tacker arm contacts with a stop 10 on the side clamps, the cam 28 lifts the locking piece 24 and brings an opening 26 therein into alignment with the plunger pin 27, Fig. 3. The plunger is then free to yield if necessary, so that no further movement of the arm 2 takes place. The clamp 5 is provided with serrated adjusting means. The wiper 1 has a hemispherical boss 3 engaging a corresponding cupped seat, so that it can yield universally against its spring 4. Specification 12304/03 also is referred to.
