Abstract

197,333. Naamlooze Vennootschap Philips' Gloeilampenfabrieken. May 3, 1922, [Convention date]. Cutting glass. - Comprises a method of, and means for, cutting into lengths continuously fed glass tubes or rods, in which the glass is bent during its travel and scored at a point, where bending tension prevails, by a tool which does not travel in the direction of movement of the glass. The tube 25 is continuously fed by rolls 15, 17, the former of which is driven through worm and chain gearing from an electromotor 2, across a spring-support 37 and an adjustable guideway 34. A compressi.on spring 50 on a rod 45 is actuated by a cam 44, causing a slow forward and a quick retracting movement, to bend the tube and bring the skin of the tube which is in tension against a stationary grinding wheel 31 rotated from a pulley 5 on the motor shaft.
