Abstract

196,751. Bennett, G. H. Feb. 22, 1922. Soldering-irons.-In a gas-heated soldering-iron of the type in which the heating is effected by a bunsen burner forming part thereof and supplied with gas at ordinary pressure, the burner tube has a narrow-bore opening at its outlet into an enlarged portion and provided with a thin metal web so as to give a small intense and rigid flame and prevent lighting-back. The gas tube passes through a wooden handle A, and is screwed at the rear end into a connection D for the flexible gassupply pipe, and at the front end into a rise-valve regulator nozzle F such as a '' Bray's " nozzle, which is .separated by a sleeve E from the end of the handle. The nozzle F screws into a short Bunsen burner-tube G, which has a thin-web or webs H to prevent back-firing and a narrow bore with an enlarged outlet I to prevent the flame from being blown out. The burner tube may be screwed into a head J having side arms L and a socket into which the bit K is secured by a set screw, or may be screwed into a holder O, Fig. 9 into which a hatchet shaped bit P is secured.
