Abstract

195,991. Low, A. M. April 10, 1918. Ordnance, mechanical. - An apparatus for launching projectiles comprises an inclined track up which a carriage supporting the projectile is propelled. The apparatus may be portable or fixed. Fig. 1 shows a tubular track a connected to a motor chassis c and supported on struts b. A carriage f is hauled rapidly up the track by a cable e connected to a heavv drum d which is driven by gearing h connected to a pneumatic cylinder l by a cord wound around a drum i. The cylinder is supplied from a reservoir m which is charged by a compressor n driven from the motor engine. At the end of the track, the carriage is arrested by spring pressed shoes o which frictionally engage a duplex portion c<1> on the track. The pneumatic means may act directly upon the carriage instead of through the heavy drum d.
