Printing-apparatus.-Means for automatically changing the printing light for the different sections of the negative comprise projections at selected positions between the longitudinal edges of the negative adapted to co-operate with feelers which protrude into the path of the projections, and are adapted either directly, or by means of relays, to control circuits giving graduated light intensities. In the form shown, projections 2' - - 2<9> are formed on the negative 1 between adjacent pictures at the points where change of printing light is desired, and may take the form of pressed-up buttons or tongues on the negative, or of attached pieces of film. These projections co-operate with feeler arms 3<1> - - 3<9> turning on a common shaft 9 and pressed into frictional engagement with one another by a spring 8. The feelers 3<2> - - 3<9> are arranged in parallel circuits through a graduated resistance 16, a mercury contact 6 common to all the feelers being closed when any feeler is depressed by a corresponding projection on the film, and completing the circuit through the mains 10, 14, printing lamp 18, and the corresponding section of the resistance 16. Before each change in the printing light is effected, a projection 2<1> actuates a feeler 3<1> which energizes an electromagnet 12 extending across all the feelers, and the previously-actuated feeler is thereby returned to its inactive position.
