Abstract
In a process for absorbing sulphuretted hydrogen from gases by means of a solution of an alkali or a suspension of an alkaline earth and regenerating the absorbent liquor by means of a gas containing carbon dioxide, the liquor after removal of sulphuretted hydrogen is heated and the carbon dioxide evolved used for regenerating the absorbent. Steam or any inert gas may be passed into the liquor to facilitate the removal of the carbon dioxide. Losses of carbon dioxide during the removal of the sulphuretted hydrogen are made up by the absorption of carbon dioxide from the gas being purified. Heat interchangers may be used in which the regenerated absorbent is cooled before re-use by the liquor coming from the absorbers. Potash is preferred as the absorbent since the carbonate and bicarbonate are more soluble than those of sodium.
