Dropping-roller and like sheet feeds; pile tables and supports for sheet-feeds; sheet-separators.-Blanks for forming tubular articles such as paper cartons, are fed from piles A, B at each end of a machine, Fig. 1, each pile being carried on a plate 30 of a frame 31, 32 slidably mounted in a holder 24 and urged upwards by a counterweight 44 attached to chains 38 fixed to the frame and passing over wheels 41, 42 carried by a shaft 43 journaled in the holder and carrying another wheel 45 connected by a chain with a sprocket on a shaft carrying a fusee wheel, a weight carried by a cord passing around the fusee wheel equalizes the elevating force on the holder 30 as the weight of the pile of blanks decreases. The blanks are introduced into the holder through a hinged door 26, Fig. 9, normally retained in the vertical closed position by spring controlled locking bolts and are forced upwards against a spring controlled bar 54 at one end of the machine frame and pivoted fingers 81 at the sides thereof; the fingers are carried by rock shafts 81<x>, 82 journalled respectively in the machine frame and door 26 and connected together by crank arms and links, one of the link and crank connections 91, 94 being detachable to allow the opening of the door 26. The topmost blank is also engaged by pivoted stop fingers 56 having depending lugs 58 with extensions 59 slightly spaced from the blank and by fingers 60 mounted on a rock-shaft 61 actuated by a cam on a shaft 63. A shaft 68 carries flexing-fingers 67 and blank advancing fingers 78, both sets cf fingers being provided with gripping surfaces 69, 79 and the shaft being driven at a variable speed so that the flexing-fingers engage the blank at a comparatively slow speed and the advancing fingers at a rapid speed. As the fingers 67 engage the topmost blank, the fingers 81 are rocked outwardly to release the blank, which is drawn from beneath the bar 54 and lugs 58 and flexed, the forward end of the blank being still held by the fingers 60. As soon as the fingers 67 disengage the flexed blank, the rear end thereof contacts with the lugs 58, the fingers 81 are rocked to engage the next blank, and the fingers 60 are lifted, the flexed blank then straightening out and thrusting its inner end between the terminals of an electric circuit. The fingers 78 then engage tho blank and feed it into the bite of a feeding-drum 76 and presser roller 74, the breaking of the circuit allowing a counterweight 75<c> to lift the roller 74 into engagement with the drum.
