Abstract

Detachable installations.-A detachable propelling installation of the kind which is adapted to be adjustable on a horizontal pivot and also adjustable on a vertical axis for steering, is provided with locking means and stops for both movements. The cooling system of the internal combustion engine includes a pump driven off the propeller shaft, pipes inside the dependent casing, and registering openings in the two-part crankcase. The dependent tube 1, Fig. 4, has secured thereto a sleeve 2 which supports the motor crankcase 3 and a free sleeve 4 is itself supported on a horizontal trunnion 16 in a frame 12 adjustably held on the boat. Arms 15 at the bottom of the frame 12 have clamped thereto a segmental plate 20 against which abuts the sleeve 19, which is fixed to the tube 1, during forward running. When the tube is turned through 180‹ for reverse running, segmental flanges 23 on the sleeve 19 take up against the rims 24 of a plate 20 and so take the thrust. The cam actuated pump 28, Fig. 5, delivers water through the external pipe 27 and internal pipe 31 to a passage 34 in the crankcase and thence by a T-piece 33 and external pipes to the jackets of two horizontally opposed cylinders. The return from the jackets is by external piping to a T-piece 39, passage 40, and irternal pipe 41 to the outlet 44. A guard plate is placed above the propeller. The steering- handle is pivotally attached to the engine.
