Circular machines; knitted fabrics.-The patterning attachment described in Specification 184,339 is modified in that in place of a single central pattern cam, two cams H, H<1> which may be duplicates, are used. The cams are mounted on the sliding sleeve J with a space H<2> between them. When they are lowered the thread guides A which are released and permitted to come into action by reason of the displacement of the cam H', instead of remaining in action until the cam H' is again raised, as would be the case were a single cam used, are by a further lowering movement of the sleeve J placed out of action by the other cam H. The lower half of the diamond outline shown in Fig. 7 is produced as above described by a group of nine thread guides A working over eighteen needles N and having their butts A<1> disposed as shown, the upper half being produced by raising the cams H, H<1>. By using guides A with double lower ends to supply threads to two adjacent needles, the diamond outline shown in Fig. 8 is obtained, the cams H, H' being first raised and then lowered. The diamond figure shown in Fig. 5 is produced by five guides A working over nine needles. The guide 1 is independent of the control cams and is traversed one needle space per course to produce the right hand half of thb diamond. The lefthand half is produced by the guides 2 - - - 5 the butts A<1> of which are disposed as shown in Fig. 4 and are controlled by the cams H, H<1>. By removing one of the cams the effects shown in Figs. 9 and 10 can be produced. Specification 12552/08 is referred to.
