Abstract

192,130. Ferrier, P. Oct. 18, 1921. Gaiters for leaf springs are made from a flexible casing consisting of interengaged metallic convolutions movable with respect to each other. A casing 10 is provided for each half of the spring L, each comprising interengaging convolutions 11, Fig. 2, formed with oppositely-arranged V-shaped channels 11a, 11<b>, and provided with asbestos packing 12. A lining 13 is provided, and flanges 11<a> at the inner ends are welded to annular flanges 19, Fig. 3, of a bracket 15 which is attached to the axle A by a clamp-member 20 having U-shaped bolts 21. Outer flanges 11<d> are welded to annular extensions of caps 24 encasing the outer ends of the spring. The gaiter may be filled with oil or other lubricant.
