Sheet-registering devices; guides; forwarders, grippers, and gripper mechanism.-In a printing-machine of the kind in which a number of successively operated adjustable front stops arrest the sheets in several printing positions so that each sheet receives a number of impressions from the same printing-device, the sheets are registered laterally and held during printing by a laterally moving gripping-device. The sheets are placed singly on a feed table C against a side gauge and are fed over the platen 24 by endless tapes 1 and three sets of co-operating feed rollers or discs 27, 29, 31 carried in arms pivoted freely to rockbars 28, 30, 32. Gate stops 52 are carried by the bar 28 which is rocked to release the sheet by a cam 55 on a cam-shaft 56 engaging an arm on the bar. The sheets are arrested in successive printing positions by three sets of stops 65, 66, 84 carried by rock bars 63, 30, 32, which are operated in timed relation, the bars 30, 32 directly by cams 77, 90 on the shaft 56 acting through arms on the bars, and the bar 63 indirectly by link connections with the bar 30. Adjustment of the stops 66, 84 is provided for by mounting them on cross-bars 67, 83 carried by screws 69, 85 mounted in the bars 30, 32. Rails or bars 96, supported from the bars 30, 32 so that their lower edges are in a plane below that of the stops when in their raised position, are provided to prevent accidental lifting of the sheets by the stops. The sheets are registered laterally at each printing position by a registering gripper comprising a lower jaw 178 having a sheet gauging shoulder 180 and a pivoted upper jaw 183 which is held closed by a spring and is opened by a cam 190 on the shaft 56 acting upon an arm 188 of the jaw. The gripper is carried by a bar 177 which reciprocates across the machine, being moved inwardly by a spring and outwardly b a cam 192 on the shaft 56, and the cams 190, 192 have each three high and three low positions so that the gripper acts once in each printing position of the sheet.
