Back struts locking by positive detents applied by relaxation of pull.-A back-strut brake for preventing trotles &c. from running down an incline consists of two struts D carried by a shaft E, provided with a central pinion and a short arm E<1> attached to one end of a spring F. A draw-bar B, to which the haulage rope is connected, carries a rack C which engages with the pinion on the shaft E.
