Abstract

Relays.-The core a is of oval section with flattened sides, and the pole-pieces d, e welded to each end of the core widen gradually from the width of the core a to that of the armature b. A plate g secured to the rear pole-piece d carries the armature b by means of a flat spring b<1>, and the ends of the armature, when attracted, move towards the upper face of the pole-piece e and into contact with the lower face of the plate g respectively. To the outer end of the armature is secured a clip h, the lower arm of which is bent to engage beneath the polepiece e and to form a limit stop for the upward movement of the armature. Two upwardly-extending arms i are formed on the clip h for operating the contact springs. As shown in Figs. 4 and 5, four sets of contact springs are used, each set comprising three springs, the middle one of which is moved from contact with the top spring to contact with the bottom spring when the magnet coil c is energized. Each arm i is bifurcated and bent downwards to engage lugs on the middle springs. Two arms n secured by nuts n<1> project between the sets of springs, and their ends lie between lugs on the top and bottom springs of each set in such a way as to limit the downward movement of the top springs and the upward movement of the bottom springs. The arms n can be bent for initial setting and adjustment, and are provided with lugs m to receive an adjusting-tool.
