Abstract

14,983. Aitken, H. W., [Bolk, F. W., partly]. Oct. 23. Extracting sugar.-Megass is treated to render it suitable for forming into permanent fuel briquettes without the use of a binding- material, while at the same time lowering the moisture-contents and recovering sucrose, by cutting the megass across the grain into lengths of about ¢ inch, subjecting it to a heavy pressure, for example 250-700 atmospheres, blowing through it high-pressure wet steam, or high-pressure hot water, and finally applying to it a very heavy pressure, say of 1000-1500 atmospheres.
