Refuse-consuming furnaces.-An incinerator or destructor for refuse, such as manure, consists of a circular structure of brickwork and concrete supported on a concrete foundation and enclosing a frustro-conical receptacle with a grate at the bottom. As shown in Fig. 1, the destructor comprises inner and outer walls c, e, and a sloping lining j enclosing concrete i and supported on a foundation b. The space beneath the grate h is accessible through openings k provided with doors k<1>. Air is admitted above the grate through pipes l having air-admission doors m, and additional draught openings are provided at n.
