Abstract

14,537. Jenkins, D. R. Oct. 14. Tinning and coating by dipping.-In machines for coating metal plates or sheets with tin, terne, or other metal or alloy, the pot 1 is provided with partitions 4, 3 separating it into a flux box 5, a dirt box 6, and a compartment 7 containing the usual driven rolls 2, and the plates x are fed to the rolls along guides 8 by forks 9, the operation of the forks being controlled so as to prevent overlapping of the plates, and to enable them to be fed successively without waste of time. As shown, the rods 10 of the forks 9 are provided with adjustable stop-fingers 26 adapted to engage with stop-fingers 25<b> on levers 25, which may be telescopically adjustable or otherwise and are controlled by cams 14 on a shaft 12 driven through gearing 15, 16, 20 from the shaft 23, which drives the rolls 2 &c. The regulating- means is adjustable for plates of different lengths, the pinion 15 being exchangeable to suit the length of the plate, and the pinion 16 being mounted on a radius-arm 17 adjustable in a slot 17<a>, or being directly adjustable in a slot concentric with the shaft 23. In operation, a fork 9 cannot be given its full movement to feed a plate x within the nip of the rolls 2, until the corresponding cam 14 has rotated into position to allow its respective stop-finger 25b to drop.
