Abstract

Circulating or passing fluids through materials.-A bleaching or dyeing vat or the like is provided with an exterior siphon or circulation pipe for effecting circulation by withdrawing liquid from the upper level in the vat and returning it to the lower part thereof, and means are provided for heating the exterior of the circulation pipe or one or both legs of the siphon after the flow has been established. The circulation may be further increased by admitting a jet of steam or other fluid to the siphon, or to the pipe. In one form, the lower arm of the siphon is connected to the vat below a perforated false bottom B, or terminates in a distributing-pipe, and the upper arm terminates in a scum-collector M. A U-shaped part S is trunnioned so that it can be tilted for starting purposes, and a jet nozzle J admits steam to the lower part of the down-leg of the siphon. The exterior of the siphon is heated by a heater H. Valves V<1>, V<2> are provided so that the liquid need not pass through the steam-injector device.
