Abstract

13,801. Thury, R. June 16, [Convention date]. Exciting.-In a constant-current series system, an exciter G<2> for the main generator G', or for a motor supplied from the mains, is differentially excited by means of windings I<2>, J, the winding I<2> being supplied with current from a source of substantially constant voltage, such as a sub-exciter G<3> or an accumulator, and the winding J carrying the line current. The exciter G<2> has, in addition, a compounding - winding K shunted across the main machine G<1> in series with an adjustable resistance R'. To prevent surges in the line current, a stabilizing - transformer T may be provided, with its primary winding T' connected in series with the line, and with its secondary winding T' in series with the winding I<2> or with the exciting-winding I' of the main machine. The main machine G' may have an additional field-magnet winding carrying the line current, or the exciter G<2> may be connected in parallel with this winding, the winding I' being omitted. Automatic regulators may be employed for varying the resistances R', R<2>.
