Abstract

12,862. Justice, P. M.; [Loose-Wiles Biscuit Co.]. Sept. 8. Biscuits coating bakers' and confectioners' goods; waffle and like making apparatus.-An apparatus for making filled wafers comprises a hopper and a stencil plate, relatively movable, from and through which a filling-material is forced into concavities or recesses in sheets of wafer material, which are then superimposed and cut. The apparatus shown in Figs. 4 and 5 comprises a reciprocating hopper 19 for the fluid filling-material and a stationary frame 2, in which are two supporting-plates 4 with openings 5 for receiving the bulged parts of two wafer sheets 12, 13, of dough or the like. The plates 4 are mounted on two longitudinal central rods 6, their edges being supported by the frames 2. Over the wafer sheets is placed a stencil plate 14 with openings 14<1> corresponding to the openings 5. The hopper 19, which moves on spring-supported ways 30, is then reciprocated over the stencil plate by means of rack-and-pinion mechanism 27, 28, and the filling-material in it is expressed by a stirrer 26 and spread by wipers 24. The stencil plate 14 is then raised on its pivot bar 17, and the two sheets 12, 13 are raised about their pivots 6 so as to bring the sheets together. The filled and adhering wafer-sheets are then cut by a group of knives 38, Fig. 18, acting simultaneously on all the parts 37 between the filled parts 34, 35. In a modification, the wafers are reciprocated beneath a fixed hopper containing the fluid filling-material. When applying the filling-material to flat superficially-marked wafer sheets, a thick stencil plate is used. The filling and some other parts of the process may be done by hand. Fig. 7 shows a mould for making the wafer-sheets; it consists of two parts 7, 8 with concavities 9 and projections 10. Fig. 12 shows a pair of flat wafers with ridges 41 and enclosing fillings 43.
