Abstract

11,666. Russell, W. Aug. 12. Decanting g and settling.-Solids, such as starch or China-clay are separated from liquid in which they are suspended, by causing the pulp to flow in a thin layer over a slightly inclined table or surface at such speed that the solids remain on the table while the liquid drains off. In the apparatus shown, pulp is supplied through launders E to slowly-revolving circular tables B mounted on a shaft A, water being also supplied if required. The liquid runs off into launders N, and the deposited matter is removed by brushes H to trough M. The tables B are provided on the undersides with rollers which run on the troughs N. A modified form of apparatus comprises nine superposed tables, pulp being fed to the three lowest tables, from which the solid is transferred to the three middle tables and thence to the three top tables, from which it is finally removed; the liquid from the three top tables is used to moisten the deposit on the three lowest tables.
