Abstract
11,080. Woodington, J. H., and Coles, E. H. July 30. Landing-stages &c.-A landing-stage or the like is mounted on a wheeled carriage drawn by horse power or mechanically propelled and constructed with improved telescoping sections operable from a multiple winch, motor-driven or otherwise, special means for varying the angle of the bridge, and covered-in trollies adapted to run on the extended sections. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, the section 1 consist of I-section bars connected by cross-bars 4, and the inner section is pivoted at 3 to the winch frame 10<a> on the carriage 5, the outer sections having rollers 1<a> running in the channels of the adjacent inner section when the sections are moved in or out by cables passing to the drums of the multiple winch. The cable for expanding the sections is suitably guided round pulleys on the cross-bars. The forward end of each section is supported by cables 11 passing over pulleys 9 on a braced structure 6 to a drum 17 shaped to let out or take up in correspondence with the extension or retraction of the sections. The structure 6 is pivoted at 7 to the carriage 5, and may be detachably locked to the carriage, or bear on the ground, or be swung over to bear on a support 16, cables 13 passing round a drum 13<a> effecting the movement. The inclination of the first section may be adjusted by cables 18<a> passing to winch drums 18 on standards of the carriage. A cable 14 passing round a winch drum 14<d> engages hooks on a closed-in trolly 19, Fig. 4, and serves to traverse it along the top of the rails of the sections. The winch drums are driven through a chain and clutches. Planks with pins to engage holes in the flanges may be laid across the sections. In a modified construction, Figs. 7, 10, and 11, the front part of the carriage c is out away to embrace a box frame b carrying the telescoping sections h, i, j, respectively operated by cables b<1>, h<3>, i<3> passing to drums b<x>, h<x>, i<x> of a multiple winch m, and stayed when in the extended position by cables k passing to a drum k<x>. The box b is mounted to permit of lifting, lowering, and tilting, by providing guides e thereon arranged to engage rolls f on a structure a on the carriage c, the movements being effected by cables d passing to a drum d<1>. The sections carry uprights h<2>, i<2> fitted with telescopic bars, which may be projected downwards to support the bridge. The trolly travels on the sections and may be housed in the box b. The trolly 19 is built of steel plate and provided at the back and ' front with a door, and is preferably loopholed in its sides and ends. It has flanged wheels 19<b> to run on the sections.
