Abstract

11,075. Sykes Interlocking Signal Co., W. R., and Tarrant, R. W. July 30. Track apparatus actuating signals on trains and for stopping trains. -A normally energized electro-magnet k on the train is de-energized when an electromagnet e, f passes over a magnet 18 on the track, which is polarized so as to cause a deflexion of the lever b controlled by the electro-magnet e, f so as to open the switch h. When the magnet k is de-energized, its armature opens the circuit to the magnet e, f. The lever b carries the cores of the two coils e, f, which are of tapered form and are polarized so that the lower end of the forward core c is of small size and of the same polarity as the upper end of the track magnet. The core d has its lower end large and of opposite polarity. For a clear signal, the track permanent-magnet is neutralized or reversed in polarity by a coil. The armature n of the magnet k operates a visual indicator u, the bellcircuit contacts q, and the brake valve v, and is locked in its downward position by the armature of the magnet 5. The apparatus is reset by a key inserted in the keyhole 10, which first closes the contacts 9, so that if the speed of the train has been reduced sufficiently to cause the governor 8 to close the switch 7, the magnet 5 is energized. The key then raises the armature n and resets the apparatus. By arranging a reversing-switch operated by the governor in the circuit of the magnets e, f, a track magnet in danger condition may be passed at low speeds.
