Boat raising, lowering, disengaging, and supporting gear; davits.-Life-boats are launched by means of luffing arms 3, to the upper ends of which are pivotally mounted sluing arms 24. The falls 38 are operated by drums 46 and pass over guidepulleys and through guide-tubes in the davit arms to the fastenings 36 on the boat. In a launching operation, the boats are lifted from the chocks and slued outboard, being then lowered by releasing the falls if the water is calm. In rough weather the falls are secured to the davit arms by clamps 59 when the boat is in the outboard position, and the davits are then luffed by operating the winches 46. The hooks 36 on the ends of the falls are engaged by latch pins 61, which may be disengaged simultaneously by means of a drum 80 and handle 81 to release the boat at the desired moment. The davits are connected by a bar 9 and are stayed by adjustable links 12.
