Wood-screws.-In a self-countersinking woodscrew, portions a of the head, at each end and on opposite sides of the driving-groove c, are forced downwards so as to project beyond the normal contour of the under surface of the head and form cutting-projections. A punch e, for shaping the head in this way has at its lower end two oppositely inclined surfaces f surronnded by a ferrule g, which forms a socket for the screw head. The surfaces f are separated by a slot h, in which is arranged a plate j adapted to be pressed by a spring k into the groove of the screw head. The punch is then forced down by a hammer &c.
