Abstract
9359. Lilly, W. E. June 25. Fixed-abutment type; movable-abutment type; valves, distributing and cut-off.-In rotary engines, pumps, meters, and blowers of the type comprising an outer wheel E internally chambered and in mesh with an inner wheel D externally chambered, the two wheels differing in size and number of teeth so that chambers are provided between the teeth into which pressure fluid can be admitted, the teeth are made true cycloids and are shaped to a rolling circle having a diameter intermediate the diameters of the pitch circles of the two wheels. In one form, the wheel E is rotatably mounted on a stationary shaft A provided with an eccentric portion C, on which the wheel D is rotatably mounted. In one end of the shaft there is a central inlet passage for the fluid, communicating with a radial passage C' in the eccentric portion C, and in the other end of the shaft an outlet passage communicating with a number of radial passages C<3>. The wheel D has a number of radial passages D<4>, which are carried successively past the inlet passage C' and outlet passages C<3>, and serve to conduct the pressure fluid to and from the chambers G: : G<5> between the wheel teeth. The wheel D may be mounted on a cranked portion of the shaft A, instead of on an eccentric portion. In a modification, the inner wheel is mounted concentrically on a cranked portion of the shaft, and the shaft rotates in a bearing concentric with the outer wheel, which is stationary. In another form, the inner wheel is fixed on a stationary shaft, and the outer wheel rolls upon it, rotating about on an axis eccentric to the axis of the shaft.
