Working-fluid supply.-The plant is of the type in which air is compressed in stages isothermally before it is heated, first in a counter-current exhaust heated regenerator e and then by using it to support the combustion of oil in a furnace f. According to the invention, the air is cooled, before compression, in one or the other refrigerating-machine i. The air stream is divided before it enters the furnace, part only flowing past the burners, which are supplied from an oil tank h which is in communication with the compressed air reservoir r. The compressors may be driven by the main motor m or by a separate motor and its action controlled by the pressure in the reservoir. The furnace may be jacketed by the exhaust gases, and the fuel supply thereto regulated by the temperature. The motor may be a turbine.
