3845. Wiese, C. H. L. March 10. Fats, extracting by solvents. Apparatus for extracting fats by volatile solvents consists of a rotating drum a fitted with open and close steam coils b, c, the ends of which pass out through the hollow axles f of the drum in such manner as to leave a space for the passage of solvent or air and vapours. The steam coils b, c are bent to form agitator arms. The coil b is provided with a perforated isolating-jacket g of wood &c. The solvent vapours are removed through a bend d communicating with one of the hollow axles, and are conveyed by a blower to a condenser, from which uncondensed gases are returned by a bend e communicating with the other hollow axle. The apparatus may be applied to the treatment of leather, hides, fruits, kernels, domestic waste, waste from refinery plants, &c.
