Abstract
3712. Polick, W. V. May 1, 1914, [Convention date]. Sleepers, metal, and securing rails to; chairs with separate jaws.-Metal sleepers formed in one piece are bent to form transverse loops 6 with larger loops 7 near the ends and spaced to come under the rails. Between the loops, the sleeper is formed with longitudinal depressions 4 near each edge, the depressions having boltholes 5 near each end. Centrally of the sleeper is a row of slots 2<a>, the edges 2<b> of which are turned downwards, as shown in Fig. 4, and are provided with slots 3. Lengths of the sleeper may be joined end to end by similarly-shaped plates secured by bolts passing through the holes 5. Rails are secured to the sleeper by separate chair jaws 11, the horizontal portion 12 of which has a flange to engage in slots 2" and is also provided with a hole for a holt 14, the T-head 15 of which engages in the notches 3.
