Abstract

2703. Baker, H. E. Feb. 19. Mountings. -Relates to ordnance and machine guns, particularly for use against aircraft, of the kind in which a fixed or adjustable arrangement of a central barrel and a number of surrounding barrels is employed whereby the fire may be concentrated or scattered as desired. According to the present invention, a gun in which the central barrel is fixed and the outer barrels are adjustable is provided with wedge breech-blocks which are simultaneously operated by means of a single lever. The gun is elevated and trained by means of a wheel so arranged that the operator can stand with his shoulder to the wheel. In the construction shown, a centre-pivot mount is employed, the cradle 4 being mounted in the forked support 2, and the gun is elevated and trained by means of a shoulder-wheel 8, 9. The central barrel 12 is fixed, and four barrels 13 surround it, being pivoted at 14 in a casting 14<a> provided with lugs 14<b>. The barrels 13 are each provided with a fixed sleeve 15 having inclined slots 16, Fig. 6; a slidable member 17 carries pins 17<b> engaging the inclined slots, the member 17 being moved. as desired, from a hand-wheel 26, Fig. 5, through gearing 26<a>, 27, 28 and adjustable rods 29, 30. The breech-blocks 19, Fig. 10, are simultaneously operated by means of a lever 20 and link 21, the knuckle connexions 23 allowing for any change in position of the barrels.
