Abstract
2674. Contraflo Condenser and Kinetic Air Pump Co., and Higgins, C. F. Feb. 19 Condenser systems.-In steam-turbine condensing-plant of the kind wherein the turbine a exhausts into a condenser c from which the aerated vapour and condensate are withdrawn by one or more water-jet ejectors f, g, which may be preceded by a steam ejector h, for example as described in Specifications 23,140/07, 16,358/08, 1161/09, and 11,043/09, the centrifugal pumps d, e which supply condensing-water to the condenser and water to the ejectors are driven by the turbine shaft. In the case where a machine, such as an electric generator b, is driven directly by, or by gearing with, the turbine shaft, the pumps are coupled either to the turbine shaft or to the machine shaft, or one pump is coupled to each. The condensate may be led by a pipe m so that the ejector f can discharge both the vapour and the condensate. In the case where separate ejectors are provided, the condensate ejector g is arranged at such a distance below the condenser that it is self-charging. The pump e for the ejector water is connected to the tank t into which the ejectors discharge, and if this is not the boiler feed-tank, a float-controlled valve v passes water to the feed-tank or elsewhere when it rises above a certain level in the tank t.
