Abstract

1965. Meynell, H. Feb. 8. Tension arrangements. - In an apparatus of the ball-drag type comprising a slotted tube 2, receptacle, or recess mounted or formed on the tension rail 1, and containing one or more halls 5 between adjustable end plugs 6, 7, the plugs have slots 8, in alinement with the slot in the tube &c., to facilitate threading, and the slots are expanded into eyelets 9 at the centres of the plugs to allow ballooning of the yarn and thus avoid grooving. The receptacle is preferably disposed in a vertical position, the yarn passing upwards, and is suitable for overhead winding from hanks or bobbins. It may he inverted for further use when worn. The interior may be corrugated either by continuing the screw-thread, or by inserting, above and below the ball grooved washers, which conform to the shape thereof. Liners 10, Fig. 4, in conjunction with springs or resilient washers 11 of various thicknesses, may be used to accommodate balls of different sizes, as shown in dotted lines at 5<a>. Fig. 5 shows an arrangement of two balls.
