Abstract

1933. Nelson, S. Feb. 6. Forging-dies; angular bending; trimming.- Automobile and other axles, having spring perches and ends forked to accommodate the knuckles of the steering-wheels, are made by forging in dies. The blank is held in the grooves 1 of the dies A, B, Fig. 1, and the grooves 8 of the spring- pressed sliding blocks 4, and upset by the die 13 to the form shown in Fig. 7. The enlarged end 15 is then stamped by the die parts 17, and the web removed by the punch 25. The blank is then placed against the abutments 26, 27, Fig. 5, and the fork opened by the arm 28. The fork is finally shaped by a suitable die while held in the recesses 31.
