Abstract
1162. Watchman, J. S. Jan. 25. Pulley-blocks.-In a ship's or like snatchblock of the type comprising a substantially rectangular frame formed of hinged bars and having the sheave pin seated at one end in a side member and resting at the other end in a recess in the opposite side member, the frame consists of a top bar a, Fig. 1, an L-shaped member c pivoted to the bar a at b, and a side member e pivoted at one end to the free extremity of the member c and perforated at the other end to receive the bar a. A pivoted hook g enters an opening in the bar a, and when the hook is disengaged, the frame opens, as shown in Fig. 3. The pin k, which is secured by a nut r and rests in a recess s in the member e, has an integral sheave n and a number of separate sheaves p. By this sheave construction, when more ropes than one are passed through the block, any one may have free motion independently of the others and with a minimum of friction. In an alternative arrangement, the member e is pivoted to the bar a and is slotted at its lower end to receive the horizontal part of the member c.
