Abstract

23,428. Ratcliffe, F. A. Dec. 2. Coating-appliances, hand; coating-machines. - A device which may be used as a hand-tool, or may be attached to an arm on a machine in which the work is traversed mechanically, consists of a liquid container a having a lip a<1> for emptying and a slot closed by an applying- roller i with adjustable means for regulating the supply of liquid to the roller, such as an adjustable scraper j. The sides of the receptacle a are extended to form a flange c around the top, which may be provided with a lid. The receptacle has cheeks g on each side of its outlet e carrying brackets h for supporting the roller i, which is turned with a pair of grooves to limit the applying-surface, and knurled edges i' for engaging the work. The handle d is provided with a slot or holes for attachment to a machine. Any means may be employed instead of the scraper j for regulating the supply of liquid, for instance an adjustable scraper har above the roller; or the roller may be mounted on adjustable bearings. A flat strip may be provided on one or both sides of the container a; or the container a may be brought in line with the boss k as shown in Fig 2, so that the apparatus may be drawn along against a straight edge.
