Abstract

22,653. Prideaux, W. de C. Nov. 17. [Cognate Applications, 23,670114 and 7100/15.] Ammunition receptacles. - Relates to cartridge clips of the kind described in Specification 3560/93 for loading revolvers and comprising an annulus of spring blades 1, 2, Fig. 1, projecting from a base 13 and provided with a disk 5, which slides along the spring blades to eject the cartridges from the clip and to push them into the chamber of the revolver. The invention consists in a number of improvements of detail to prevent the complete withdrawal of the disks from the blades, the accidental fall of the cartridges from the clip, and the accidental explosion of the cartridges in the clip, and to facilitate the insertion of the cartridges into the clip, their transfer into the chamber of the revolver, and the carrying of the clip. As shown in Fig. 1, the blades 1, 2 are bent at their outer ends 3, 4, and the disk 5 is connected by members 24, 25 to a bridgepiece 23 normally pressed away from the base 13 of the clip by a spring 26. This arrangement gives a double security against the withdrawal of the disk. Instead of bending the outer ends of the blades, the disk may be provided with tongues projecting into grooves or slots extending along the blades but stopping short of the ends of the blades, or the base 13 of the clip may be provided with a central post 14, Fig. 4, passing through a hole in the disk and provided at its outer end with a head-piece 15 which confines the disk. A cup 19 or a skeleton cap is detachably secured to the central post or to the blades to enclose and protect the cartridges in the clips, and holes 21. Fig. 3, are made in the disk 5 where the primers of the cartridges rest to avoid accidental ignition. The insertion of the cartridges into the clip from the side is permitted by making the outer blades 1 narrow at their base to allow entrance space for the rim of the cartridge. The transfer of the cartridges from the clip to the revolver chamber is facilitated by shaping the tongues of the disk, which fit into grooves of the blades as abovementioned, so that they cause the blades to open out when the disk is pushed forwards, and also by giving the clip of cartridges a conical formation as shown, by inclining the blades or shaping the part of the disk that bears against the base of the cartridge in the form of a cone, so that when the cartridges are pushed into the revolver chamber by the disk, the outer or inner edges of the cartridges are the first to come in contact with the walls of their respective chambers, and the cartridges are gradually deflected into alinement with the chambers and loosened from the spring blades. Loops or rings 22 are provided on the cup 19, or the bridge 23 or other part of the clip to facilitate the carriage of the clip, or its attachment to a belt or bandolier.
