Alternating - current relays. - A relay comprises a tuned non-polarized armature oscillating between the opposite pole-pieces of a permanent magnet, the poles being alternately weakened and strengthened by windings connected to an alternating-current source. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 2, the windings 2, 3 are connected to a source of alternating current and the vibration of the armature 4 causes circuit to be closed alternately at the contacts 5', 6<1> which may take the form of stretched silver wires. In the modification shown in Fig. 3, the armature 4 alternately operates spring leaf contacts 14, 16. In the modification shown in Fig. 5, the armature comprises two laminated iron pieces 9 embedded in an ebonite frame adapted to oscillate in the direction of its length between the two poles N, S of a permanent magnet, the projections of which are provided with alternating-current windings.
