Abstract

21,064. Dollman, H. Oct. 16. Locking nuts.-A nut is locked to a bolt by a pin 6 driven into a transverse groove 1 or 2 formed in the upper face of the nut, and into a groove 5 which is filed in the bolt after the nut has been screwed down. By means of a saw-cut 7, a tongue 9 is formed at the side of the groove, and this tongue is closed down on to the top and ends of the pin 6 to retain it in position. By means of cross - cuts, the tongue may be divided into a number of smaller tongues for easier manipulation. If the groove 1 or 2 is parallel to one of the sides of the nut, the wall of the groove may be sufficiently thin to be bent down without forming the saw-cut 7. The groove 2 may be shallower than the groove 1 to the extent of half the pitch of the thread, so that if readjustment is required, the nut may be turned through half a revolution and the pin 6 then driven into the same groove 5.
