Abstract

19,769. Pindstofte, A. A. Sept. 14. Forcing gas into liquid; forcing liquid into gas; feed, regulating.-In impregnating liquids with carbon dioxide or other gas, the liquid is supplied from a pipe d, and gas from a pipe e, tothe base of an impregrating-chamber a containing inverted V-shaped partitions k, the alternate halves of which are perforated. The aerated liquid is discharged from the top of the chamber by a pipe i, and excess of gas passes by a pipe j to the upper part of the liquid-supply vessel b. When the vessel b is empty, the outlet cock c is closed, and the vessel is refilled from a reservoir m by opening cocks in the pipes u, w. The liquid flows down the pipe w, and the displaced gas passes through the pipe u and an annular perforated partition x and into the liquid in the form of a cylindrical column surrounding the liquid outlet. During the filling of the reservoir m, air from the upper part of the reservoir is drawn by a pipe p into a vessel q by running water slowly through a cock r from the vessel, and the lower layers of gas, containing larger proportions of carbon dioxide, may be returned to the impregnating chamber a through a non-return valve 2 and pipe o.
