Abstract

15,069. Pearce, H., and Barratt, W. June 28. Fixed - chamber apparatus for aerated liquids; controlling passage of gases.-An apparatus for aerating liquids, which delivers equal quantities at each operation, comprises an aerating- chamber D surmounted by a gasreceiving chamber H of about the same capacity, and supported on a valve casing containing gas and water supply valves, a snift valve, and an aerated liquid discharge valve. The water-supply valve F is operated by the depression of a member N<4> attached to the pivoted handle of a rotary disk N, and the other valves are operated by cam-surfaces on the disk. A snift pipe I passes vertically through the chamber. In operation, the disk N is brought into position to open the snift valve and to bring the member N<4> over the water-supply valve F, so that this valve may be opened, whereupon water enters the chamber D to the upper level of the pipe I, and excess escapes down this pipe. The disk N is then rotated to close the water-supply and snift valves and to open the gas valve, so that gas passes through a perforated baffleplate M into the liquid, and excess accumulates in the chamber H. The gas valve is next closed and, upon the opening of the snift valve and the discharge valve G, aerated liquid is discharged from a spout G<2>. The water may be taken from a reservoir which supplies water to the level of the top of the chamber, and the snift pipe may be carried to the top of the chamber H. The aerating-chamber D may be divided by longitudinal partitions, or may be formed of a number of separate tubes. The apparatus is adapted for filling bottles or siphon vessels under pressure by attaching a filling- head to the discharge spout, and fitting in the disk N a spring block which, on depression, will open the discharge valve G while the gas-supply valve is open, operation of the spring block being effected by a pivoted handle, which also operates the snift valve of the filling-head.
