Be it known that I, CHARLES A. WILK NsON,
a citizen of the United States, and a resident of \Vorcester, inthe county of \Vorcesterand State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and Improved Apparatus for Charging and Dispensing Liquids, of which the following is a full,'clear, and exact description.
- This invention relates to an apparatus designed especially for use on soda-water stands to constitute these-called soda-water fountain. By means of my apparatus the water is charged with the gas employed as fast as it is used, a mixing and charging device being be obvious to persons skilled in the art.
This specification isa specific description of one form of the invention, whilethe claims are definitions of the actual scope thereof.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the views.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the apparatus, and Fig. 2is a vertical section thereof.

Now with this arrangement, there being a pressure of water in the pipe b and of gas in the pipe 0, the valve 0 may be opened and the gas injected into the dome d. Then by turning on the water the water will be broken up into fine particles and become charged with gas. The mixture then passes into the chamber dajwhere the mixing process is still carried on, and finally the aerated or carbonated water passes into the reservoir, where it is held under a certain pressure, as will be understood. Byoperating the cooks c this water may be drawn off at will. The gage f will show the height ofthe water in the reservoir and will show when this water needs replenishing. Ifdesired, a pressure-gage may be connected with the mixing-chamber d to show the gas-pressure therein. It will be obvious that this arrangement will effect a great saving over the ordinary soda-water apparatus and also will be much easier and convenient in operation. The pipe I) may be coiled in the bottom of the casing a, and this casing, being filled with ice, will refrigerate the water, thus taking it to the charging devices at a low temperature and facilitating the absorption of the gas.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. An apparatus for .carbonating liquids, comprising a casing a reservoir in the casing, a mixing-chamber mounted on the reservoir "communicatingdirectly therewith, a dome mounted on the mixing-chamber and comm unicating directly therewith, an injector-nozzle leading into the dome, a gas-supply pipe connected to the nozzle, avalve commanding the gas-supply pipe, at liquid-pipe leading into the dome transversely to the nozzle,and a valve commanding the liquid-pipe.
2. An apparatus for carbonating liquids, comprisingacasing,a reservoir therein,mcans extending outside of the casing for withdrawing the liquid therefrom, a mixing-chamber mounted on and directly communicating with the upper part of the reservoir and Within the casing, a dome on the mixing-chamber and communicating directly therewith, an injector-nozzle leading into the dome, a gas-supply pipe connected to the nozzle, a valve commanding the gas-pipe, a Water-pipe coiled in the casing and leading to the dome transversely of the injector-nozzle, and a valve commanding the water-pipe.
3. An apparatus for carhonating liquids, comprising a reservoir having a perforated top portion, a mixing-chamber mounted on the reservoir at the perforated part thereof, said perforated part of the reservoir constituting the bottom of the mixing-chamber, a dome mounted on the mixing-chamber and communicating directly therewith, an injector-nozzle leading into the dome, a valve-controlled gas-supply communicating with the nozzle,
and a valve-controlled liquid-supply communicating with the dome.
4. An apparatus for carbonating liquids, consisting of a casing, a reservoir in the casing and provided with a pipe leading therefrom out through the casing, said pipe being provided with a cock, a mixing-chamber on the top of the reservoir and communicating therewith, a dome on the mixing-chamber, an injector in the dome, a valve-casing in the inclosing casing and connected with the injector, a valve in the casing and having its stem leading out "through the inclosing casing, a gas-supply connected with the valve-casing, a second valve-casing in the inclosing casing and connected with the upper part of the dome, a valve in the said casing and having its stem extending out through the inclosing casing, and a water-supply pipe coiled in the inclosing casing and connected with the valvecasing, substantially as described.
