Abstract

19,238. Storjohann, D. Aug. 29. Electric and magnetic; skid.-The brake blocks are arranged to have freedom of lateral movement so that they may adjust themselves to permanent or local variations in the rail gauge. In one arrangement, the members for transmitting the braking - effort to the vehicle comprise horizontal bars 3 passing through openings in the brake blocks and serving, with bars 4, Fig. 4, or 6, Fig. 6, to strengthen the truck frame 7. The braking - effort is transmitted in the longitudinal median plane of the block by projections 2<1>, Fig. 2, on the stopplates 2. According to another arrangement, freely swinging vertical transmission members 3, Fig. 8, fit freely in sockets in the blocks. These sockets are shaped in transverse section as shown in Fig. 10 to allow a limited rocking movement of the block with respect to the member 3. The plates or shoes x are solidly secured by shaped bolts 12, Fig. 3, of non-magnetic material, which force the upper tapered parts of the plates into the wedge-shaped opening in the body 14 of the magnet. The sockets or openings for the members 3 are formed of non-magnetic material faced with steel stopplates 2, but the direction of the leakage field being transverse of the block at these parts, magnetic attraction between the members 3 and the plates 2, which would interfere with the free vertical movement of the blocks, is avoided. The blocks are suspended by springs.
