Abstract

17,236. Walch, W. Nov. 3, 1913, [Convention date]. Drawings to Specification. Cooling charges and discharged materials.- Incandescent coke is cooled by a current of inert gases, for example waste combustion products, and the heat abstracted is utilized in a suitable heat-exchanging apparatus. The coke may be cooled either in the oven itself, or after discharge into a separate cooling-chamber, and the gases from the heat-exchanger are preferably used over again for cooling. In one form described, the inert gases are passed in a circuit through the coke to be cooled, through the heating-flues of another oven, and through a heat-exchanger back to the cooling coke. The supply of heat to the exchanger may be equalized by passing through it gases from chambers at different stages of the cooling process. When the heat abstracted from the coke is utilized for heating air, the temperature of the cooling-gases may be first reduced in a water-heater. The separate cooling-chambers employed may be transportable, so that the cooled but still warm coke may be transferred direct to the blast furnace.
