Abstract

Letter-spacing mechanism. - In escapement mechanism of the kind comprising a ratchetwheel engaged alternately by two separate pallets, one directly operated from the universal bar and engaged or interconnected with the other, the pallets are arranged so that the one directly operated is normally in engagement with the ratchet-wheel, the other being normally disengaged from the ratchet-wheel by a spring. The pallet 5 directly operated is substantially straight and is normally held in engagement with the ratchet-wheel 1 by a spring 8. The other pallet 6 is a bell-crank lever and is normally held out of engagement with the ratchet-wheel by a spring 9. The pallet 5 is connected by a link 11 to the universal bar, and co-operates directly with the inner arm of the pallet 6, or indirectly by means of a lateral stud, or, as shown, a supplementary arm 13. The throw of the pallet 5 may be regulated by means of a screw stop 15.
