15,522. Atherton, R., Jones, D. B., and Engelke, W. June 29. Reel and web apparatus.-Relates to apparatus for automatically projecting a series of pictures on a screen with a dissolving effect. In the apparatus shown, the pictures are on an endless band A. Two projection lamps c, c<1> are alternately used and are gradually cut in and out by a rotating controller E, E<1>, the section E controlling the resistance D, and the section E' the resistance D<1>. During the dissolving action, the film is stationary. As soon as one lamp, say the lamp c, is cut out, the slide B is moved to change the picture of the lantern C. After the next dissolving action when the lamp c<1> is cut out, the slide B' is operated to change the picture of the lantern C<1>. The film is shifted by ordinary claw feed mechanism from the motor shaft g through the slides B, B<1>, connecting-rods b<1>, and crank-arms b, the arms b being in continuous rotation. Two films may be used in lieu of a single film A, or a series of pictures may be mounted on the band or bands.
